NERS NEWS – Students of the Nursing Profession Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (Group 9, Batch B27), conducted a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) session themed “Early Mobilization for Post-Operative Patients” on Friday, March 13, 2026. Held in the waiting room of the Central Surgery Department (IBS) at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA), the activity aimed to enhance the understanding of patients and their families regarding the vital role of early movement in accelerating recovery after surgery.
This initiative was carried out as part of the Medical-Surgical Nursing clinical rotation, under the guidance of academic supervisor Dr. Laily Hidayati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep, and clinical instructor Prieza Ferdania Choirun Nisa, S.Kep., Ns. The session was attended by patients and their families waiting within the RSUA Central Surgery facility.
Throughout the event, participants showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in the Q&A session. Some participants expressed concerns regarding physical activity following surgery. In response, the education team explained that gradual early mobilization—tailored to the patient’s condition—helps improve blood circulation, enhances respiratory function, prevents complications such as thrombosis and pressure sores (decubitus ulcers), and speeds up the overall post-operative healing process. Additionally, educational leaflets were distributed as informative resources for patients and families to reference later.
This counseling activity represents a contribution from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. It aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages by improving health education, preventing disease complications, and enhancing the quality of healthcare services for the community.
