Group 12 Nursing Profession Students Conduct Health Education: Identifying and Preventing Chronic Kidney Disease

NERS NEWS – Surabaya – Group 12 students of the Nursing Profession Program held a health education session themed “Identify and Prevent Chronic Kidney Disease” on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM WIB, at the IRNA 7A Graha Trimed student room. The event was attended by ten family members of patients currently undergoing treatment. This counseling aimed to enhance family understanding regarding the importance of early detection, prevention, and management of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which remains a high-prevalence health issue.

The activity began with an opening by Nur Asa, followed by material presentations by Ratna, Nurul, and Renata. The session covered the definition of CKD, early signs and symptoms, high-risk groups, danger signs, and potential complications that can arise if the disease is left uncontrolled. Participants also received information on treatment principles and disease management, including the importance of a healthy lifestyle and adherence to medical therapy.

The counseling utilized PowerPoint presentations and leaflets to make the information more accessible and easier to understand. The atmosphere was interactive, marked by the active participation of patient families who asked questions regarding dietary management and home care. The session emphasized that families play a crucial role in supporting patients—from supervising medication adherence and managing diets to monitoring health conditions regularly and providing full emotional support to CKD sufferers.

The event was also attended by the Clinical Supervisor, Mrs. Nina Yaroh U., S.Kep., Ns., who expressed her support for the students’ program. Overall, the activity proceeded smoothly and effectively within approximately 30 minutes.

It is hoped that this initiative will encourage active family involvement in efforts to improve the quality of life for those living with chronic kidney disease.
