Promoting Hypertension Prevention Education, Nursing Students Introduce the SEHAT Method at Kalijudan Community Health Center

NERS NEWS – The atmosphere at Kalijudan Community Health Center on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 09:00 to 09:30 AM became more interactive with the implementation of a health education session on hypertension. This activity was part of the clinical practice of nursing students aimed at increasing the understanding of patients and their families about the importance of preventing and controlling hypertension.

The health education session carried the theme “Living a Controlled Life Without Hypertension” by introducing the SEHAT method (S: Stop smoking, E: Energy through physical activity, H: Avoid excessive salt intake, A: Arrange a balanced diet, T: Take care of and maintain a healthy body weight). This method is a simple approach designed to help the community adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors in preventing hypertension. Through this method, participants were expected to understand practical steps that can be applied in daily life to maintain stable blood pressure.

During the main session, the students delivered educational materials covering the definition of hypertension, risk factors, warning signs and symptoms that need to be recognized, and the potential complications if hypertension is not properly controlled. In addition, the students emphasized the importance of implementing healthy lifestyle behaviors such as reducing salt intake, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, and maintaining an ideal body weight as part of hypertension prevention efforts.

The activity was conducted in several stages, starting with an orientation phase to create a comfortable and engaging atmosphere, followed by the delivery of educational materials using leaflet media, and ending with an evaluation stage through discussion and question-and-answer sessions with the participants. In this activity, the students acted as facilitators by delivering the material using simple and easily understandable language for the community. The session was also supervised by the clinical instructor Waji., S.Kep., Ns., who provided guidance and support throughout the activity.

During the session, participants showed enthusiasm toward the material presented. One participant stated, “After attending this education session, I better understand the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, reducing salt intake, and regularly engaging in physical activity to keep my blood pressure under control.”

Through this activity, it is hoped that the community will gain a better understanding of how to prevent and manage hypertension by consistently adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors. In addition, this activity also serves as a learning opportunity for students to develop their skills in delivering promotive and preventive health education in healthcare settings.
