NERS NEWS – According to WHO, many maternal deaths are caused by complications during pregnancy and postpartum. The most important complications that account for 75% of maternal deaths are bleeding especially after childbirth and puerperal infections. This complication can certainly be prevented by getting information, especially about what to do to prevent infection in the postpartum period. From this problem, students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Class of 2020 from the A2 PJBL Maternity class group 1 organized a Community Education Movement that discussed matters surrounding the postpartum period. The discussion of this education starts from general information about puerperium, things to watch out for, especially if there is an infection and preparation for the puerperium, as well as simple relaxation exercises that can be done during the puerperium.
This Community Education Movement (GEMAS) was held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 which was scheduled from 08.00-11.00 at RW 10 Tanah Kali Kedinding Village, Kenjeran Surabaya District. This activity was opened with remarks from Aura Latimura as the head of the PJBL maternity course group 1, continued by Mrs. Retnayu Pradanie, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep as the lecturer in charge of this activity, as well as representatives of figures from RW 10, namely Fahreza Imanda. The event focused on the core event, namely providing education about postpartum to a total of 15 participants by Nur Rofiqoh Chasanah, Fkp Universitas Airlangga Student Class of 2020. Not only health education, but there was also postpartum gymnastics training and free health checks for participants in the form of checking blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid. No less interesting event is the myth and fact games. In this game, participants were given a statement that has often been debated in the community during pregnancy or post-pregnancy conditions. This certainly increases knowledge and answers people’s curiosity and confusion about the myths and facts of pregnancy.
“Hopefully useful activities like this can always exist in RW 10 Tanah Kali Kedinding, if possible, there will be representatives from each RW so that the benefits can be more widely felt by the Kenjeran community, because it is rare for activities like this to exist, especially since the community feels very happy to have free examinations,” said Fahreza Imanda as a representative of RW 10 leaders regarding expectations for future activities.
