NERS NEWS – Ners Professional Students Group B Stase Child Nursing Faculty of Nursing Universitas Airlangga has successfully organized play therapy with the method of learning while playing “Art of sticking pieces of paper(puzzle) on paper with a picture pattern” on Thursday 10/11/22. This activity was carried out directly in the playground of IRNA 4th floor Pediatrics Airlangga University Hospital (RSUA) with the target of pre-school age children (3-6 years) who were being treated at IRNA 4th floor Pediatrics RSUA.
This play therapy is one of a series of activities carried out by Ners Professional Students to fulfill their competencies as Ners. Play therapy with learning-by-play method “Art of sticking pieces of paper(puzzle)) on Pattern Picture Paper”, can accelerate the child’s recovery process, maintain the child’s development process, improve the fine motor development of pre-school age children, train to improve children’s cognitive in sorting the right shape in sticking puzzle paper pieces on pattern picture paper, and improve children’s social, affective, and language skills, namely interacting with friends, so it is considered necessary to carry out play therapy in the Irna Room, 4th floor Pediatrics RSUA.
“Our group deliberately chose the target of pre-school age children, because when the implementation took place the number of pre-school age children in irna 4 pediatrics was quite a lot, so play therapy is suitable and important to do in order to reduce the impact of hospitalization felt by children or families and parents who look after,” said Ajeng as a representative of group B.
This event consisted of opening with the introduction of children and the activity committee, followed by inviting children to stick pieces of puzzle paper on patterned paper accompanied by the committee as facilitators. Playing puzzles is considered to be able to improve children’s cognition because by playing puzzles children can solve a problem, namely arranging images according to the pattern. In addition, playing puzzles can train children’s eye and hand coordination so that they can match colored paper pieces according to the pattern.
In the middle of the activity, children are asked to release fatigue by singing together the song here happy there happy. Nursing students always remind parents to wear masks, and teach children to sing hand washing songs to the strains of the song sipatu gelang.
During the event, children were very enthusiastic about singing, sticking, answering questions and playing with friends their age. Ika Nursetyo Palupi, S.Kep., Ns as the clinical supervisor also asked about the impressions and feelings of children and parents who participated in the play therapy activities, all of whom were happy.
The play therapy at the hospital ended with singing the song sayonara and a question and answer session about animal sounds and animal pictures to the children who participated in this activity. Overall, the event went well and the targets were very happy, both children and parents.
