NERS NEWS – The IRNA 6A ward became the focal point of a health education initiative led by Group 10. This activity focused on patients with hernia medical condition where an internal organ protrudes through a weak spot in the surrounding muscle tissue.

Hernias are commonly experienced by various individuals, particularly patients with a history of heavy lifting, chronic coughing, or abdominal muscle weakness. At IRNA 6A, several patients are currently undergoing intensive care and monitoring to prevent further complications.

Group 10 provided counseling on the importance of maintaining an appropriate diet for hernia patients. This dietary management aims to reduce abdominal pressure and accelerate the recovery process.

The recommended foods for hernia patients include:

  • High-fiber foods: Such as green vegetables (spinach, broccoli) and fruits (apples, bananas) to prevent constipation.
  • Low-fat protein sources: Such as fish, skinless chicken, and tofu/tempeh to support body tissue repair.
  • Easily digestible foods: Such as soups and porridge to avoid straining the digestive system.

Conversely, patients were advised to avoid foods that could worsen their condition, such as high-fat or spicy foods, as well as caffeinated and carbonated beverages that can increase gastric pressure.

This educational activity was well-received by both patients and healthcare professionals at IRNA 6A. It is hoped that the information provided by Group 10 will help patients better understand the vital role of dietary habits and a healthy lifestyle in the hernia recovery process.
