This Research Group focuses on advancing the science and practice of fundamental nursing, nursing leadership, and healthcare management through evidence-based research. Its activities encompass improving the quality of fundamental nursing care, strengthening nursing leadership capacity, enhancing healthcare service management, promoting patient safety, and developing innovative healthcare delivery systems to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare services.

To become a nationally and internationally recognized research group in fundamental nursing, leadership, and management that contributes to the advancement of nursing science and healthcare management while improving healthcare quality through innovation and global collaboration.

Mission
  • Conduct innovative, high-quality research that meets international standards through advanced research approaches and the utilization of information systems and digital technologies in fundamental nursing, leadership, and nursing management.
  • Produce scholarly publications, intellectual property rights, and patents derived from innovative research in fundamental nursing, leadership, and nursing management.
  • Implement community engagement and service programs based on research innovations in fundamental nursing, leadership, and nursing management.

Pediatric and Maternity Nursing
Overview

The Pediatric and Maternity Nursing Research Group is an academic research cluster dedicated to advancing nursing science, practice, and innovation in maternal, newborn, child, and family health through a life-course approach. Research activities encompass promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative dimensions of care. Research findings are integrated into nursing education and clinical practice and translated into community engagement programs aimed at strengthening family empowerment. The group actively disseminates and publishes research outputs while promoting research translation and innovation to generate meaningful societal impact.

Medical-Surgical Nursing
Overview

The Medical-Surgical Nursing Research Group focuses on advancing evidence-based nursing theory and practice in providing comprehensive care for adult patients with acute and chronic health conditions. Research activities are directed toward improving patient safety, patient experience, recovery outcomes, rehabilitation, quality of life, and healthcare service efficiency through innovative clinical, educational, and technological interventions that respond to changing disease epidemiology, particularly the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The scope of research encompasses medical and surgical conditions, as well as physical, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions of care through a holistic nursing approach. Research and community engagement activities are aligned with national and global health priorities, including infectious diseases, NCDs, health promotion, nutrition, health literacy, and digital health innovations such as telenursing, thereby contributing to improved healthcare quality and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Mental Health Nursing Research Group, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, is dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and practice of mental health nursing through evidence-based approaches. The group addresses the growing complexity of mental health challenges by promoting comprehensive, holistic, and sustainable solutions that encompass promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative dimensions of care for individuals, families, and communities. As part of the university’s commitment to education, research, and community engagement, the research group serves as a collaborative platform for faculty members, researchers, and students to develop innovations in mental health nursing. Research priorities include mental health promotion, prevention of mental disorders, therapeutic interventions, family- and community-based approaches, and digital mental health innovations such as telehealth. Through national and international collaborations, the group is committed to generating high-quality research that contributes to clinical practice, education, and mental health policy development.

The Gerontological Nursing Research Group focuses on advancing research related to healthy ageing, frailty, and long-term care through innovation in caring and morality-based approaches that create meaningful societal impact and improve the quality of healthcare services for older adults. The group is committed to formulating, analyzing, and providing evidence-based policy recommendations that contribute to healthcare development, generate internationally recognized publications, and strengthen international collaborations in addressing the challenges of population ageing and Indonesia’s demographic transition toward the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. Research activities are expected to contribute to improving the quality of life of older adults and strengthening healthcare systems in alignment with national healthcare priorities and strategic development agendas.

Adopting a life-course and systems perspective, the group emphasizes community engagement, family-centered care, and participatory approaches in developing sustainable and impactful interventions. Research activities also address strategic global issues, including healthcare access disparities and nursing workforce dynamics, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
