Doctor's Program in Nursing (Dr.)

Overview

The implementation of the Doctoral Program in Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, is based on the Rector’s Decree No. 1485/UN3/2017 concerning the establishment of the Doctoral Nursing Study Program within the Faculty of Nursing. It is also supported by the Decree of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) No. 0198/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Dok/X/2020 regarding the minimum accreditation status of the Doctoral Nursing Program at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.

The educational activities of the Doctoral Program in Nursing refer to the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 44/2015 on National Standards for Higher Education, as well as the Rector’s Regulation of Universitas Airlangga No. 36/2017 concerning guidelines for research-based doctoral education.

The research-based doctoral program is designed to produce nursing scholars who are capable of developing and generating scientific discoveries in the field of nursing science. Graduates of the Doctoral Program in Nursing are expected to possess comprehensive mastery of the philosophy, knowledge, and advanced skills in nursing. This program is a structured academic program consisting of advanced coursework, specialization, and independent research, following a Semester Credit System (SKS). Learning activities include periodic seminars, independent study, scientific communication, research, scientific writing, and community service. The total study load is 48 credits.

In Semester 1, students are required to participate in Periodic Seminar I, optional sit-in courses as needed, the qualifying examination, and the dissertation proposal examination, with a total of 10 credits.

In Semester 2, students engage in community service activities aimed at fostering scholarly behavior and implementing research findings (evidence-based practice), optional sit-in courses, and Periodic Seminar II, with a total of 4 credits.

In Semester 3, students participate in an international seminar, complete one scientific publication, and attend Periodic Seminar III, with a total of 4 credits.

In Semesters 4–6, students focus on dissertation work, including feasibility assessment, closed doctoral examination, open doctoral defense, and publication in international reputable journals indexed in Scopus, with a total of 30 credits.

The duration of study for the Doctoral Program in Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, is three (3) years, and graduates are awarded the degree of Doctor of Nursing (Dr.).

In addition, students are required to organize a National Seminar, participate in the International Nursing Conference (INC) regularly hosted by the Faculty of Nursing, and develop innovations in clinical or community healthcare settings both domestically and internationally, including in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia.

Learning outcomes are achieved through academic and practical activities conducted on campus, in laboratories, clinical settings (hospitals), and community environments, both nationally and internationally.
