Department – Department of Pediatric and Maternity Nursing
The Department of Pediatric and Maternity Nursing is one of the academic departments within the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, serving as a center for the development of two major disciplines: Pediatric Nursing and Maternity Nursing. These fields play a strategic role in improving maternal and child health outcomes through sustained education, research, and community service, in alignment with national health development priorities and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in supporting Indonesia’s vision toward the Golden Generation 2045.
The department plays a crucial role in preparing professional nurses (Ners) who are competent, ethical, and capable of delivering holistic nursing care tailored to patients across the life continuum—from pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period to child growth and development. The department focuses on advancing knowledge and practice in maternity nursing care, reproductive health, neonatology, and pediatric nursing, including care for healthy children as well as those with acute and chronic conditions.
Furthermore, the department actively develops innovative models of evidence-based nursing care and prepares professional nurses who are competent, empathetic, and adaptive to the evolving challenges in public health. Its scope of care spans across the continuum of life stages, including pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborns, children, and adolescents.

To support the learning process, the department is equipped with Maternity Nursing and Pediatric Nursing Laboratories as simulation-based learning facilities to prepare students prior to clinical practice. The Pediatric Nursing Laboratory is designed to include areas such as child growth and development clinics, pediatric outpatient and immunization units, neonatal rooms, and pediatric inpatient wards. Meanwhile, the Maternity Nursing Laboratory comprises gynecology units, obstetrics and gynecology clinics, intranatal care services, and inpatient facilities. These facilities provide students with comprehensive learning experiences in delivering holistic nursing care for mothers and children.
In alignment with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education—education, research, and community service—the department consistently develops research and community engagement programs focusing on maternal and child health promotion, family-centered care, reproductive health, and child development. The Department of Pediatric and Maternity Nursing also manages academic programs within the Faculty of Nursing, particularly the Master of Nursing Program with a specialization in Pediatric Nursing.
