Unair Nursing PKK Students Conduct Handwashing Education and Sensory TAK at Liponsos Keputih

NERS NEWS – Students of the Clinical Work Practice (PKK) program at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, carried out a Health Promotion (PKRS) and Group Activity Therapy (TAK) session together with patients at UPTD Liponsos Keputih on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Barrack C. The activity aimed to improve patients’ knowledge of the importance of personal hygiene through education on the 6-step handwashing technique, as well as to stimulate sensory function and creativity through a finger-printing activity on canvas.

During the session, the PKK students provided counseling on the benefits of handwashing, key moments when handwashing is necessary, and a hands-on practice of the 6-step handwashing method in accordance with WHO guidelines, delivered through a communicative and easy-to-understand approach. The atmosphere was warm and interactive, where “Tata was seen actively engaging and conversing directly with Barrack C patients to create a comfortable environment throughout the activity.”

Following the education session, the activity continued with group activity therapy in the form of finger-printing on canvas using a variety of color choices. Patients were visibly enthusiastic, from selecting colors to creating simple patterns based on their own creativity. This activity helped enhance fine motor coordination, concentration, and the ability to follow instructions, while also serving as a means for patients to express themselves through art.

In addition to supporting clean and healthy living behaviors, the activity was also expected to provide an enjoyable experience and strengthen social interaction among patients within the Liponsos Keputih environment. The event ran smoothly and received a positive response from all participants.
