During the session, the students explained the importance of medication adherence for patients with mental disorders. The material covered the definition of medication adherence, the benefits of undergoing therapy regularly, factors causing non-adherence, the impacts of discontinuing treatment independently, and simple steps patients can take to improve medication compliance. The education was also delivered using poster media as a visual aid to make the information easier for participants to understand.

Medication adherence is one of the important aspects of the recovery process for patients with mental disorders. Non-adherence to therapy can increase the risk of relapse, worsen patients’ psychological conditions, and increase hospital readmission rates. Therefore, health education becomes a strategic step in building patients’ awareness regarding the importance of following treatment according to healthcare professionals’ recommendations.

Participants’ enthusiasm was visible throughout the activity. Patients actively followed the educational session and participated in the question-and-answer discussion regarding their experiences during treatment. This interaction demonstrated participants’ interest and improved understanding of the importance of maintaining therapy adherence as part of the mental health rehabilitation process.

In addition to benefiting patients, this PKRS activity also served as an implementation of nursing students’ roles in community service and health education. Through this activity, students not only enhanced their therapeutic communication and health education skills, but also contributed to supporting more holistic and patient-centered mental health services.

This educational activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Through continuous education, it is hoped that patients will increase their awareness regarding the importance of medication adherence so that the recovery process can proceed more optimally and patients’ quality of life can improve.
