NERS NEWS — Nursing Professional students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga provided health education regarding postpartum care for post-cesarean section (C-section) mothers. This activity was carried out as an effort to improve the understanding of mothers and families on how to maintain health, prevent complications, and support recovery after childbirth.
As a form of community service and health education, Nursing Professional students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Group A1.1 conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity with the theme. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the waiting room of the VK Emergency Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit at RSUD Dr. Soetomo. This activity was supervised by a Clinical Instructor and attended by patients and families present in the waiting area.
During the activity, students delivered material regarding postpartum care after cesarean section, including personal hygiene maintenance, surgical wound care, nutritional fulfillment, adequate rest, gradual mobilization, and the importance of breast care to support smooth breast milk production. In addition, students also explained postpartum danger signs that need to be monitored, such as fever, excessive bleeding, severe pain, foul-smelling discharge, and surgical wounds that appear red, swollen, or produce discharge.
The educational session was conducted communicatively. One patient’s family member asked about the condition of a mother who had just given birth the previous day to a premature baby, “What if breast milk has not come out yet or only comes out in very small amounts? How can breast milk production be increased?” This question made the education session more interactive because family members actively paid attention to the condition of both the mother and the baby.
Through this activity, it is hoped that post-cesarean section mothers and their families can better understand postpartum care, recognize danger signs, and support the mother’s recovery process after childbirth.
