NERS NEWS — Surabaya, June 5, 2026. Group 6_A2 students from the Nursing Professional Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, conducted a health education session on the introduction of nebulizers for children in the Bobo Ward of Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital (RSUD Dr. Soetomo) on Friday (5/6/2026). This activity was held under the direct guidance and supervision of the Clinical Instructor (CI), Mrs. Shinta Narulita, S.Kep., Ns.

The session was aimed at the parents and families of pediatric patients undergoing treatment in the Bobo Ward. It sought to enhance the participants’ knowledge regarding the correct and safe use of a nebulizer as a therapeutic option for children’s respiratory disorders. Held from 09:00 to 09:30 WIB, the educational session utilized lectures, discussions, and Q&A formats, complemented by leaflets as educational media. The material covered the definition of a nebulizer, its purposes, indications and contraindications, the benefits of the therapy, correct usage procedures, key considerations during therapy, and warning signs to watch out for.

This initiative was motivated by the fact that many parents still do not fully understand how to use a nebulizer properly, despite the device being frequently used for children with respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchiolitis, wheezing, and other conditions that cause airway narrowing. Throughout the event, participants showed great enthusiasm, engaging actively in the discussion and Q&A session. Through this activity, it is hoped that parents and families of patients can properly understand the function and correct usage of nebulizers, thereby supporting successful therapy and improving children’s health.
