NERS NEWS — The D3.2 Maternity Group conducted a Hospital Health Promotion Program (PKRS) entitled “Meeting Maternal Nutritional Needs During and After Childbirth” for pregnant women and postpartum mothers. The activity, which took place in the maternity ward, aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of meeting maternal nutritional needs during and after childbirth.
The PKRS activity was delivered through a health education session using interactive lectures and a question-and-answer discussion. The topics covered included the definition of nutrition, the objectives and benefits of adequate nutrition during and after childbirth, nutritional requirements for mothers during and after delivery, recommended foods, and the consequences of inadequate nutritional intake. Throughout the session, participants showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged by asking questions.

The program was organized by the D3.2 Maternity Group and attended by postpartum mothers and patients’ family members in the maternity waiting area. The activity was supervised by the academic advisor, Prof. Esti, and the clinical instructor, Midwife Yeti, who provided guidance throughout the preparation and implementation of the health education program.
This PKRS activity was designed to help patients and their families better understand the importance of fulfilling maternal nutritional needs during and after childbirth. It was expected to increase awareness among mothers and families regarding the vital role of nutrition during the childbirth process. The program also served as a promotive and preventive effort to improve maternal and infant health outcomes while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
Through this activity, the students hoped that participants would gain a deeper understanding of the importance of adequate nutrition during childbirth and be able to make appropriate dietary choices to support maternal energy needs. This education was expected to increase awareness among mothers and families about the role of nutrition in maintaining physical well-being during labor, reducing the risk of complications, and supporting optimal postpartum recovery. Family support in ensuring adequate maternal nutrition was also expected to contribute positively to the overall health of both mother and baby.

This PKRS activity supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being – Promoting maternal health and well-being through education on the importance of adequate nutrition during childbirth to support energy needs, reduce the risk of complications, and accelerate recovery.
- SDG 4: Quality Education – Providing health education for mothers, families, and the community regarding the importance of nutrition during childbirth to improve knowledge and awareness of maternal health.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Strengthening collaboration among students, academic advisors, clinical instructors, healthcare professionals, mothers, and families in delivering educational activities on optimal nutritional fulfillment during childbirth.
Overall, the PKRS activity on maternal nutrition during childbirth was successfully implemented and received positive feedback from participants. The enthusiasm demonstrated by mothers and their families highlighted the importance of nutritional education during childbirth. It is hoped that similar activities will continue to be conducted as part of the nursing education institution’s contribution to improving community health and supporting the achievement of the SDGs.
