NERS NEWS — Students of the Bachelor of Nursing Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion Program (PKRS) and Group Activity Therapy (TAK) at UPTD Liponsos Keputih Surabaya. Focusing on mental health, the activity carried the theme of anxiety management through the Butterfly Hug technique and sensory stimulation through listening to music and drawing.
The activity began with a PKRS session on anxiety and ways to manage it using the Butterfly Hug technique. During this session, the students provided education on the definition of anxiety, its signs and symptoms, and the steps involved in performing the Butterfly Hug as a simple relaxation technique that can help individuals feel calmer and more comfortable. Participants were also invited to practice the technique directly under the guidance of the students.
Following the educational session, the activity continued with Sensory Stimulation Group Activity Therapy (TAK). Participants were encouraged to listen to calming music and express their creativity through drawing activities. These activities were designed to provide positive sensory stimulation, help participants express their feelings, improve concentration, and create a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Conducted by nursing students during their clinical practice, this activity aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in managing anxiety while supporting mental health through simple and easily applicable therapeutic activities. In addition to benefiting the participants, the program also served as an opportunity for students to develop competencies in providing promotive and preventive mental health nursing care.
The implementation of this PKRS and TAK activity aligns with efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through the promotion of mental health and psychological well-being. Furthermore, the activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education through the dissemination of useful health information and education to the community.
Through this activity, participants are expected to be able to independently apply the Butterfly Hug technique whenever they experience anxiety and benefit from sensory stimulation activities as a way to maintain their mental well-being. Moving forward, students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, are expected to continue contributing to the improvement of community health through various sustainable educational and empowerment programs.
