Safeguarding Research Integrity, the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Explores Research Ethics Committee Systems with LPPM INKES YARSI Mataram

NERS NEWS — Surabaya — Continuing their academic collaboration on the second day of the benchmarking visit on Thursday (July 23, 2026), the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, together with the delegation from the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of INKES YARSI Mataram, focused on the essential issue of research integrity and ethics. While the first day emphasized innovation outputs and scientific publications, the second day was fully dedicated to an in-depth discussion of the standardization of Research Ethics Committee implementation in higher education institutions. This agenda was particularly important, as nursing and health research must consistently uphold the principles of ethics, safety, and the protection of research participants.

The intensive discussion, held from morning until afternoon, was led by the Faculty of Nursing‘s research ethics experts: Dr. Elida Ulfiana, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep.; Dr. Rista Fauziningtyas, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Ph.D.; and Sylvia Dwi Wahyuni, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. The speakers systematically presented topics ranging from the fundamental framework of the Research Ethics Committee system, submission procedures, and ethical review processes. Beyond ethical principles, they also shared practical experience in managing the committee’s administrative operations to ensure that the review process remains efficient, transparent, and accountable.

This Research Ethics Committee session reflects the Faculty of Nursing‘s commitment to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A robust research ethics governance system directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by ensuring that health research is conducted safely and generates meaningful benefits for society. Furthermore, the commitment to establishing a transparent and accountable ethics committee contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). This strategic partnership further reinforces the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga‘s role in advancing national standards for high-quality research.
