Ngembat Preventif: Screening and Education for the Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases by Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Students in Ngembat Village, Mojokerto

NERS NEWS — Mojokerto — The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga organized a series of community service activities through the “Ngembat Preventif” program, which consisted of fitness exercises, education on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), free health screenings, and early pregnancy prevention education. The health program, conducted in collaboration with UPTD Puskesmas Gondang, was carried out as a preventive effort to promote early detection, reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, and provide reproductive health education within the community.

The series of activities began on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with a group fitness exercise involving local residents to promote an active lifestyle, followed by an educational session on the prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) delivered by representatives of Puskesmas Gondang. After receiving the educational materials, residents were directed to examination stations to receive free health screening services. The examinations included blood pressure measurement, body weight measurement, and blood tests for blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels to directly monitor the health conditions of community members.

The parties involved in the success of the first day’s activities included lecturers and students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, village health cadres, and medical personnel from Puskesmas Gondang who served as speakers and facilitators for the health screenings. The activity, held at Ngembat Village Hall, coordinated the attendance of 100 local residents to ensure that the entire health service process ran in an orderly manner.

To complement the community service program, the community service team from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga continued the program by conducting socialization and education on early pregnancy prevention in collaboration with DP2KBP2 Mojokerto Regency on Thursday, June 25, 2026. This educational session was specifically attended by 30 participants who were parents of adolescent children in Ngembat Village. The presentation focused on the importance of parental supervision and open communication regarding reproductive health. Through this session, parents received comprehensive information about the medical risks, psychological impacts, and social vulnerabilities associated with pregnancy at an underage age, enabling them to become the first line of support in guiding their adolescent children’s social interactions and developmental stages.

The “Ngembat Preventif” program aimed to improve community health literacy and strengthen the role of health cadres in disease prevention and control, as a form of support for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-Being. This initiative was motivated by the increasing trend of NCD cases in the community due to insufficient physical activity, as well as the need for special attention to adolescent reproductive health. Through these activities, residents were expected to become more independent in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“The synergy between educational institutions and community health centers is very important in bringing promotive and preventive healthcare services closer to the community. We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm of the residents who came to have their health checked and learn together with us today,” said Najwa Sheryl.

The background of the two “Ngembat Preventif” programs was based on the increasing trend of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) cases in the community due to a lack of awareness regarding physical activity and early detection, as well as the importance of strengthening reproductive health literacy and parental supervision at the village level. The integration of NCD prevention education and early pregnancy prevention socialization represented a concrete form of community service commitment to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 3, Good Health and Well-Being, by encouraging an active lifestyle and creating a healthy environment for adolescent growth and development. This series of health programs focused on empowering residents to independently monitor their health conditions through free health screenings, fitness exercises, and educational sessions on preventing risky social behavior to strengthen the role of families independently. Through these two programs, risk factors for chronic diseases within the community could be proactively reduced and prevented, while also supporting SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, through sustainable collaboration with medical personnel from Puskesmas Gondang. Thus, the programs not only improved the physical health of village residents but also supported the overall well-being of the community.

Through the “Ngembat Preventif” program, the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, together with Puskesmas Gondang and DP2KBP2 Mojokerto Regency, reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to conducting regular health screenings and community-based family education. Going forward, this activity is expected to foster collective awareness among residents of the importance of maintaining physical fitness and strengthening the role of parents in preventing early pregnancy. This proactive effort is expected to protect the reproductive health of the younger generation and make a meaningful contribution to reducing disease morbidity in support of achieving national SDG targets.
