NERS NEWS — Kuala Lumpur, August 14, 2026 — A total of 21 students from the Doctoral Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, participated in the Innovation in Caring program in Malaysia from August 4–14, 2026.

The program was part of the students’ capacity-building efforts in nursing innovation while providing an international learning experience. The series of activities included innovation project mentoring, guest lectures, and sharing sessions on healthcare services in Malaysia.

In developing their innovation projects, the students received guidance from lecturers from the Faculty of Nursing, Universiti Malaya (UM) and the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (Unair). The Innovation in Caring program was supervised by Prof. Dr. Nursalam, M.Nurs (Hons) and Dr. Arina Qona’ah, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep.

The four innovations developed by the students addressed priority health issues, namely early stroke detection in hypertensive patients using the DEPENS approach; a seaweed-based moisturizing foot care kit for the prevention of diabetic foot complications; SIRANTING for early detection and prevention of stunting risks among mothers and children; and Telehealth Monitoring Gaming (TMG) to prevent the negative impacts of gaming among adolescents.

It also broadened their perspectives on healthcare services and nursing innovation from an international standpoint.

Through Innovation in Caring, the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, continues to encourage doctoral students to produce nursing innovations that are evidence-based, relevant to community needs, and capable of making a tangible impact on improving the quality of healthcare services.
