NERS NEWS — Surabaya, September 4, 2026 — Group 3 of the Emergency-Critical Nursing Profession Rotation, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) activity entitled “Providing Oral Nutrition to Patients After Anesthesia” on Friday (4/9), at 12:45 p.m. WIB, in the OK Patient Family Waiting Room. The activity was attended by 11 patients’ family members.
The activity began with an opening by Kak Fransiska as the MC, followed by the delivery of the material by Kak Diyah and Kak Ida. The education discussed the provision of food and drinks to patients after anesthesia, including the appropriate time to start receiving oral nutrition and the importance of paying attention to the patient’s condition to prevent choking and the risk of aspiration.

Participants’ enthusiasm was evident during the discussion and question-and-answer session. Two questions were asked by the participants, namely whether patients have to pass gas before they can eat and how long after fasting patients are allowed to drink and eat. In addition to asking questions, participants also shared their experiences as family members accompanying patients undergoing surgery.
The activity proceeded smoothly and interactively. Through this education, patients’ families are expected to have a better understanding of providing oral nutrition appropriately and safely after anesthesia, so that they can help prevent complications such as choking and aspiration and support the patient’s recovery process.
