NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession Education Program students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Community and Family Health Nursing on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the RW 07 Community Hall, Dukuh Sutorejo Urban Village, Mulyorejo District, Surabaya City. This activity was part of the professional practice in the working area of Kalijudan Community Health Center and involved Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH), RT/RW Heads, and youth organization (Kartar) representatives.
Through the FGD, students, together with KSH, RT/RW Heads, and community representatives, clarified and validated the results of the assessment that had been obtained. This activity aimed to identify community health problems, determine the factors influencing them, and establish priority problems as the basis for developing community nursing interventions in RW 07, Dukuh Sutorejo Urban Village.
During the implementation, each working group presented the assessment results according to its target group. The activity was then continued with data discussion and clarification, problem identification, and feedback from the academic advisor, KSH, RW/RT Heads, and Kartar. The results of the discussion were then formulated into conclusions and follow-up actions as the basis for developing community nursing programs.
For the adolescent group, the RW Head provided input that the implementation of activities should consider the still-low level of adolescent participation. Special face-to-face activities for adolescents were considered potentially limited in attendance, so the activities could be integrated with programs from other working groups in a single forum. In addition, the use of digital media in the form of educational content or videos could be an alternative for delivering health information that is more engaging and accessible to adolescents.
For the elderly group, the RW Head advised students to ensure and re-verify the number and actual conditions of elderly residents in the field. Each working group was also directed to coordinate with each RT Head to confirm the number of households and the conditions of the residents. If there were obstacles during program implementation, students could coordinate with the RW Head, RT Heads, KSH, or Karang Taruna. In addition, community activities such as the commemoration of Maulid Nabi on September 24, 2026, could be utilized as a momentum to integrate the implementation of health programs with community activities.
Academic advisor Prof. Ferry Efendi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc., PhD., also provided guidance for students to always prioritize ethics and courtesy and strengthen coordination and communication with local stakeholders, starting from RT and RW administrators to community leaders, so that all activities could run well and receive support from the community.
Based on the assessment results and input from the local KSH, interventions were developed according to the data and needs perceived by the community. The programs to be implemented include education according to the materials of each working group, as well as health checks for the elderly. Nursing Profession students will also provide demonstrations as an effort to prevent and manage health problems in RW 02. All activities will be carried out through collaboration among students, the community health center, and Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH) to improve the community’s health status.
