NERS NEWS – Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing at Airlangga University conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “Mobilization of Post-Stroke Patients” on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the waiting room of the Stroke Unit on the 6th floor of Airlangga University Hospital. The activity was conducted through lectures, demonstrations, and interactive question-and-answer sessions using leaflets and posters to enhance patients’ families’ knowledge about the importance of early mobilization in the recovery process of post-stroke patients.
This health education activity provided information on the definition of mobilization, the benefits of early mobilization, the risks of complications due to immobilization, and the stages of safe and gradual mobilization. Students also explained the importance of range of motion (ROM) exercises, which aim to help improve blood circulation, prevent joint stiffness, increase muscle strength, and support the rehabilitation process of post-stroke patients. In addition to providing information on immobilization, the presenters also gave a brief lecture on quick methods for recognizing the early symptoms of stroke and taking emergency action using the FAST method, which stands for Face (facial drooping), Arms (weakness in the arms/legs), Speech (slurred speech), and Time (get to the hospital immediately).
This activity was carried out by nursing students from Airlangga University Faculty of Nursing Class B27 Group 11 at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, targeting families of patients awaiting treatment at the Stroke Unit of Airlangga University Hospital. During the activity, participants showed great enthusiasm by paying close attention to the material presented and actively participating in the discussion and question-and-answer session.
This activity aimed to increase the knowledge and awareness of patients’ families regarding the importance of early mobilization as part of the rehabilitation process for post-stroke patients. This health education is a form of student contribution in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being through improving the health status of the community, and SDG 4: Quality Education through providing informative health education based on nursing science.
Through this PKRS activity, it is hoped that patients’ families can play an active role in assisting the safe and gradual mobilization process of patients, thereby accelerating recovery and improving the quality of life of post-stroke patients. This activity is also expected to be carried out continuously as a form of contribution from nursing students of the Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, in improving the quality of health services and education for the community.
