NERS NEWS — Students from the Professional Nursing Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Class B27 Group 2, provided health education on a low-sodium diet for individuals with hypertension. The event was held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM WIB in the IRNA 5 PEDE Room at Universitas Airlangga Hospital. The goal of this activity was to increase the knowledge of patients and their families about a low-sodium diet to prevent and control hypertension, thus reducing the risk of complications such as stroke.
This activity was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Candra Panji Asmoro, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., as the academic advisor, and Ners Widia Yuniarti, S.Kep., Ns., as the clinical supervisor, as part of the clinical practice and community service process in the educational hospital setting. The session began with an introduction of the students as presenters, followed by the delivery of material on a low-sodium diet. The presentation covered the definition of hypertension, daily salt consumption recommendations, and sample meal plans for hypertensive patients. During the session, participants showed great enthusiasm, as seen in their attention to the material and active participation in the Q&A session.
The educational session ran smoothly, was well-organized, and ended with a joint documentation session as proof of the activity. Additionally, a brief evaluation was conducted through oral questions to assess participants’ understanding of the material. The evaluation results showed that most participants were able to explain how to prevent and manage hypertension to avoid further complications. This indicates that the educational session was well-received and had a positive impact on increasing participants’ knowledge.
Through this activity, it is hoped that participants, especially the children and families of patients, not only understand the theory behind a low-sodium diet but also practice it and teach their families at home. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step in preventing and managing hypertension, particularly among younger individuals.
