NERS NEWS – Nursing Profession students from Universitas Airlangga conducted a health education session for pregnant women and mothers with toddlers at RW 02, Kalijudan Village, on Wednesday (March 11, 2026). This activity, organized by the Wave 1 (W2) Community Nursing Clinical Practice group within the Kalijudan Public Health Center’s service area, aimed to enhance knowledge regarding children’s dental health and growth monitoring through the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Working Group.
The educational session, themed “Secrets to Strong and Healthy Teeth in Children,” covered topics such as forming strong teeth during pregnancy, cleaning infant gums, the appropriate age for pacifier use (including myths and facts), and proper tooth-brushing techniques for children. Additionally, participants received education on complementary foods (MPASI) for toddlers and age-appropriate growth monitoring.
The one-hour event was attended by academic supervisors, representatives from the Kalijudan Public Health Center, and the Kader Surabaya Hebat (Surabaya Great Community Volunteers) from RT 01–04, RW 02 Kalijudan. The presence of these stakeholders highlights the effective collaboration between students, healthcare professionals, and the community in implementing public health programs.
This initiative aims to improve mothers’ knowledge, awareness, and readiness to support their children’s health and development from an early age. It also serves as a promotive and preventive effort to elevate public health standards. Through this education, it is hoped that pregnant women and mothers will adopt healthy lifestyles within their families, supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
Throughout the event, participants showed high enthusiasm, actively listening, asking questions, and engaging in discussions. Although the atmosphere became quite lively due to the many children present, it did not diminish the participants’ spirit or commitment to following the session until the end.

This health education activity contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being – Improving maternal and child health through education.
- SDG 4: Quality Education – Providing health education as part of increasing public health literacy.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Fostering collaboration between students, healthcare workers, community volunteers, and the public.
Through this activity, the Nursing Profession students of Universitas Airlangga demonstrate their commitment to playing an active role in community health education. It is hoped that such sustainable initiatives will continue to positively impact the quality of maternal and child health in society.
