Health Education in the Urology Clinic: Do Not Ignore the Urge to Urinate and Recognize the Color of Your Urine

NERS NEWS — Surabaya — Efforts to increase awareness of urinary tract health continue to be promoted. On Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM WIB, Group 3 Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) Professional Nursing students from Universitas Airlangga successfully conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity held in the waiting area of the Urology Clinic at Universitas Airlangga Hospital.

This educational activity specifically discussed daily habits that are often considered trivial but have significant impacts, namely the dangers of holding urine and simple ways to recognize urine color as an indicator of body hydration. During the session, it was explained that frequently holding urine can weaken the bladder muscles and increase the risk of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and kidney stones. In addition, participants were provided with a visual guide (leaflet) showing the urine color gradient, where clear to light yellow urine indicates that the body is well hydrated. However, if the color becomes darker, it should be suspected as a potential problem and further examination is recommended.

The education session was attended by 12 participants, consisting of patients and their family members. The atmosphere of the session was highly interactive. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident during the discussion session, which lasted quite long and recorded seven critical questions raised by participants. The questions varied, ranging from the recommended amount of water intake to maintain proper hydration to the ideal frequency for emptying the bladder.

Through this outreach activity, Group 3 KMB Professional Nursing students hope that visitors at the Urology Clinic will become more proactive in monitoring their health independently by observing urine color and avoiding the habit of holding urine.
