Unair Nursing Students Hold a Community Service Activity Titled “End Tuberculosis, Live Healthier” for Patients’ Families

NERS NEWS – Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing at Airlangga University conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity with the theme “Eradicate Tuberculosis, Live Healthier” on Thursday, April 2, 2026. This activity was specifically aimed at patients’ families as an effort to increase knowledge about tuberculosis (TB) and the prevention of its transmission.

The educational session was conducted through lectures, discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions using leaflets and PowerPoint presentations. The material covered included the definition of tuberculosis, modes of transmission, symptoms, and steps to prevent TB. Additionally, participants were educated on the importance of completing the full course of TB treatment regularly to prevent recurrence and drug resistance.

During this activity, the students also emphasized the crucial role of families in supporting the patient’s recovery process, particularly in ensuring medication adherence and maintaining a healthy environment. Education was also provided regarding home care for TB patients, such as ensuring proper ventilation, wearing masks, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing, not spitting sputum indiscriminately, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with adequate rest and balanced nutrition.

This PKRS activity was conducted by students from the Nursing Professional Program, Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, Class B27, Group 7, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. During the event, participants showed enthusiasm in attending the educational session and were active during the question-and-answer session.

The objective of this activity was to enhance patients’ families’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of proper and sustained tuberculosis prevention and treatment. Through this educational initiative, it is hoped that patients’ families can play an active role in supporting the healing process and helping to break the chain of TB transmission within the home environment. This activity also serves as a form of student contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), through improving public health and preventing infectious diseases.

Through this activity, it is hoped that patients’ families will be able to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors and implement measures to prevent TB transmission in their daily lives at home.
