NERS NEWS – Professional Nursing students from Group 2 of the Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) rotation organized a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) program on Friday, April 10, 2026. The event, titled “SEGAR: Strategies for Active Lifestyle Education Through Exercise to Improve Health Status for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients,” was held at the Hemodialysis Unit of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA). The program targeted patients and their families undergoing hemodialysis therapy, aiming to enhance their understanding and skills in maintaining an active lifestyle.
The activity was conducted in an interactive and educative manner, with material emphasizing the importance of physical activity and light exercise as a vital part of an active lifestyle for CKD patients. To ensure the information was accessible and memorable, the education session utilized leaflets and posters. Furthermore, a discussion session allowed for high levels of engagement, as participants enthusiastically asked questions and shared their personal experiences regarding their conditions during hemodialysis.
Approximately 13 participants, consisting of patients and their families, attended the session with great attention. The event proceeded smoothly and demonstrated a high level of interest in the education provided, particularly concerning the implementation of physical activities that are safe and appropriate for their specific medical conditions.
This PKRS initiative aimed to empower patients with the knowledge and skills to adopt an active lifestyle, which helps reduce fatigue, improve physical fitness, and enhance the overall quality of life for CKD patients. Additionally, this activity serves as a contribution toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, through promotive and preventive health efforts.
Overall, the PKRS program had a positive impact on the participants and is expected to be applied consistently in their daily lives. This initiative is also part of a broader effort to improve the quality of health services at Universitas Airlangga Hospital and represents a tangible contribution to sustainable health development goals.
