Unair Nursing Students Hold Violence Prevention Education at UPTD Liponsos Keputih

NERS NEWS — Nursing Program students from Universitas Airlangga, group B7 class A2, conducted a Health Counseling (SAP) and Group Activity Therapy (TAK) session themed “Prevention of Violent Behavior Toward Oneself and Others” on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the courtyard of the UPTD Liponsos Keputih mosque. The activity was attended by patients from the advanced ward as an effort to improve their ability to recognize emotions and control angry behavior in a positive way.

The activity began with counseling on the signs of excessive anger, positive and negative behaviors, and simple ways to manage emotions. Students used educational posters containing examples of violent behavior and steps for anger management in language that patients could easily understand. Following the counseling session, the activity continued with Group Activity Therapy (TAK) in the form of a game called “Positive vs. Negative Emotions.” In the game, each patient received a card depicting a specific behavior and was asked to place it in either the positive or negative behavior category, then take turns explaining their reasoning.

The activity was carried out by PKK students from group B7 class A2 of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 4:00–4:30 PM WIB at the courtyard of the UPTD Liponsos Keputih mosque in Surabaya. Participants were patients from the advanced ward who engaged actively and enthusiastically throughout both the counseling and the game.

The activity aimed to help patients recognize the signs of angry emotions and understand how to control their behavior so as not to endanger themselves or others. Beyond improving patient knowledge, it also trained communication skills, confidence in expressing opinions, and social interaction through enjoyable group activities. The activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.

A representative of PKK group B7, Arika Tri Wulandari, shared that the activity was designed using simple and interactive methods to make it easier for patients to understand the material. “We hope this activity can help patients recognize angry emotions and learn how to express them more positively, without resorting to violence toward themselves or others,” she said.

Through these SAP and TAK activities, Universitas Airlangga Nursing students hope that patients will develop a greater understanding of the importance of emotional self-control and apply positive behaviors in their daily lives. The activity also represents a student contribution to supporting community mental health through interactive education and group activity therapy.
