NERS NEWS – Surabaya – Students from the Bachelor of Nursing Program, Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, conducted a health education session on stroke and Range of Motion (ROM) for patients and their families in Room IRNA 5a at GRAHA TRIMED RSUA, Surabaya, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. This activity is part of the Clinical Nursing Practice aimed at improving physical health in line with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.

This educational session targeted 6 clients in Room IRNA 5a at GRAHA TRIMED RSUA. The session was held in Room 503 for 30 minutes, using leaflets and live demonstrations for both family members and patients. During the session, the students covered topics including the definition of stroke, signs and symptoms, risk factors, warning signs of recurrent stroke, prevention methods, the role of family members, and a demonstration of Range of Motion (ROM). Stroke can be detected early using the FAST method: Face (sudden facial drooping on one side), Arm (weakness or numbness in one or both arms), Speech (slurred or garbled speech), and Time (immediately take the person to the hospital for urgent care).

Throughout the session, participants listened enthusiastically to the material presented and even tried the Range of Motion (ROM) exercises alongside the presenter. Participants also showed enthusiasm during the Q&A session, which served as an indicator of the success of the educational process.

This activity is expected to improve clients’ and families’ understanding of the importance of early stroke detection, prevention methods, and how to perform Range of Motion (ROM) exercises to help restore muscle strength in clients who have suffered a stroke. Following this educational session, it is hoped that clients and families will be able to apply the new knowledge gained from the session to their daily lives to support an improved quality of life.

This activity was conducted under the guidance of academic advisors and clinical supervisors at IRNA 5a GRAHA TRIMED
