NERS NEWS — Surabaya, April 30, 2026 — Nursing students conducted a health education program on psychological adaptation among postpartum mothers at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Inpatient Unit of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA). The activity aimed to increase the knowledge of postpartum mothers and their families regarding the psychological changes that occur after childbirth and how to cope with them in a healthy manner through education, discussion, and question-and-answer sessions.
The educational session began with a presentation covering the definition of the postpartum period, common psychological changes experienced after childbirth, the signs and symptoms of baby blues, factors affecting a mother’s psychological condition, and adaptation strategies to maintain mental well-being. The students also provided participants with opportunities to share their experiences and ask questions related to their postpartum conditions. The material was delivered interactively to ensure that participants could better understand the information presented.
The activity involved nursing students, postpartum mothers receiving care, family members, and healthcare professionals who supported the implementation of the program. The education session was organized by Groups A2 and A7 of Class A1, Cohort 2023, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga. Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the activity, particularly during the discussion and question-and-answer sessions.
This educational program was designed to improve postpartum mothers’ understanding of the emotional and psychological changes that occur after childbirth, enabling them to adapt positively to their new role as mothers. In addition, the activity aimed to strengthen the role of family members in providing emotional support during the postpartum period. The program also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through promotive and preventive efforts to maintain maternal mental health after childbirth.
