NERS NEWS — Surabaya, Thursday, April 9, 2026 — Students of Class A3 from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity in Kenari Ward at RSJ Menur. The activity carried the theme “Education on Deep Breathing Relaxation Techniques and Emotional Control through Puzzle Games for Patients at Risk of Violent Behavior.

The PKRS activity aimed to improve patients’ knowledge and skills in managing emotions adaptively, thereby reducing the risk of violent behavior. The educational session began with the presentation of material on the importance of recognizing signs of escalating emotions, the benefits of deep breathing relaxation techniques, and the proper way to perform breathing exercises. The students then demonstrated the deep breathing relaxation technique and invited all participants to practice it together.

After the educational session, the activity continued with the Emotional Control Puzzle Game. Through this game, patients were invited to arrange puzzle pieces containing steps for emotional regulation, strategies for managing anger, and ways to calm themselves. This game-based method was chosen to make the learning process more engaging, interactive, and effective in improving concentration, teamwork, and patients’ understanding of the material presented.

During the activity, patients showed strong enthusiasm. They actively participated in the deep breathing relaxation exercises, engaged in the puzzle game, and were able to answer questions given by the students. The educational session took place in a conducive, communicative, and enthusiastic atmosphere, allowing the learning objectives to be achieved effectively.

Through this PKRS activity, patients are expected to apply deep breathing relaxation techniques as one way to control emotions when they begin to feel angry or tense. In addition, educational games such as the Emotional Control Puzzle are expected to serve as effective learning tools in helping patients understand emotional regulation strategies in an enjoyable way.

This activity was part of the professional practice of Group 1, Class A3 students from the Faculty of Nursing in providing health education to patients at RSJ Menur. It is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out to support promotive and preventive nursing services while improving patients’ mental health.
