UKS Working Group Nursing Profession A2021 – Implementing Hand Washing and Happy Exercise Physical Activities for Children

NERS NEWS – Surabaya, Friday, February 27, 2026 – Nursing students from the Airlangga University Faculty of Nursing who are members of Group 3 of the Community and Family Nursing Station carried out a school health program (UKS). The program, titled “Clean Hands, Happy Jumps: Learning to Be Healthy Together,” was held at Aisyiyah Bustanul Atfhal 47 Kindergarten, Kalijudan Village, Surabaya City.
The activity took place from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM local time, with the primary target audience being the children and their parents or families. The series of events began with an opening session, introductions, and an explanation of the purpose of the outreach. The main agenda of this activity included education on important times to wash hands, an explanation of the importance of maintaining hand hygiene for health, and a hands-on practice of the six steps of proper hand washing according to health standards.
In addition to hygiene education, the student group also invited participants to engage in physical activities together through a Fun Exercise session. These exercises were specially designed to train motor coordination and balance, as well as strengthen the immune systems of preschool-aged children. The entire series of activities was guided by nursing students. The main objective of this activity was to instill clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) from an early age and improve the physical fitness of children in the school environment. Based on the evaluation results, the participants showed great enthusiasm, actively asked questions, and were able to practice hand washing and exercise movements correctly.
The activity ran smoothly and was filled with camaraderie between the students, children, and parents. Through this momentum, it is hoped that awareness of the importance of washing hands with soap and regular physical activity can continue to be applied independently both at school and at home in order to maintain health and support optimal child growth and development. It is hoped that this kind of education and habit formation will continue in the future in order to create a healthier and stronger generation.
