NERS NEWS – Surabaya – As a tangible form of concern for the health of older adults and vulnerable groups, nursing students from Universitas Airlangga successfully organized a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The activity was held at UPTD Griya Werdha Jambangan and Liponsos Kusta Babat Jerawat.
The activity, which took place in the communal area of UPTD Griya Werdha, carried the important theme: “Implementation of Hypertension Exercise in Controlling Blood Pressure.” The main focus of this educational activity was to provide practical solutions for elderly residents and Liponsos residents in managing high blood pressure through structured physical activity.
The nursing students of Universitas Airlangga not only delivered theoretical explanations regarding healthy lifestyles but also guided participants in practicing hypertension exercises directly. The exercise movements taught had been modified to suit the physical abilities of older adults, focusing on stretching and relaxation to help reduce peripheral vascular resistance.
A total of 17 participants attended the event enthusiastically. In addition to listening to educational materials about the dangers of hypertension and its risk factors, participants were also invited to directly practice the hypertension exercise movements.
Through this activity, it is hoped that participants will be able to independently or collectively perform hypertension exercises under the regular guidance of nursing home staff. Collaboration between educational institutions and social service institutions such as this is expected to continue in order to improve the standards of community healthcare services in Surabaya.
