Cross-Border Collaboration in CSR Action: Nursing Delegations and Universiti Teknologi MARA Conduct Collaborative Teaching and Health Checks in Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor

NERS NEWS — Kuala Selangor, Malaysia — Concern for public health was demonstrated through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity held at Yayasan Al-Muhammadiyah, Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. This activity was part of a series of international activities that brought together nursing academics and students from various institutions, both from Indonesia and the Philippines.

The CSR activity began with Collaborative Teaching delivered by Dr. Joni Haryanto, S.Kp., M.Si., with the topic “Emergency Care for Older Adults.” The material provided insights into the importance of understanding and managing emergency conditions among older adults, considering that elderly people have characteristics and healthcare needs that require special attention.

The collaborative teaching session served as a space for sharing knowledge and experiences among participants. Through a collaborative approach, participants not only gained an understanding of the concept of emergency care for older adults but were also invited to recognize the importance of the role of healthcare professionals in providing services that are prompt, appropriate, safe, and oriented toward the needs of older adults.

After the learning session, the activity continued with health checks for the community, particularly elderly residents at Yayasan Al-Muhammadiyah. The health checks were conducted collaboratively by delegates from Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Aisyiyah Yogyakarta, and Calayan from the Philippines.

The series of health checks served as a tangible form of the participants’ concern and contribution to the community. The delegates interacted directly with the community through health checks, provided education, and shared information regarding efforts to maintain health and recognize conditions requiring further attention.

This activity also became a special moment as it brought together participants from various institutional and national backgrounds in a single social activity. The collaboration demonstrated that health is a shared space capable of bringing together various parties to provide benefits to the community.

Through this CSR activity, students not only gained academic experience in an international environment but also had the opportunity to develop communication skills, teamwork, social awareness, and skills in providing direct healthcare services to the community.

The activity at Yayasan Al-Muhammadiyah, Kampung Kuantan, is expected to provide benefits to the community while becoming a valuable experience for all delegates. More than just an academic activity, this activity demonstrated that nursing knowledge can be present not only in classrooms and hospitals but also within communities and across national borders.

The spirit of collaboration, concern, and community service established through this activity is expected to continue developing into sustainable cooperation in the fields of education, health, and community service at both national and international levels.
