NERS NEWS – SURABAYA, Friday, May 29, 2026. Professional Nursing students from Group D3.1, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, successfully conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) program titled “Recognizing the Signs and Preparation for Childbirth.” The educational session took place in the waiting area of the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) Clinic at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA), drawing 15 participants consisting of pregnant patients and their families.
The session commenced at 09:30 AM WIB, proceeding orderly and receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience. This initiative aimed to enhance the knowledge and preparedness of expectant mothers and their families as they approach labor, delivering practical, easily understandable information that can be readily applied.
The comprehensive topics covered included the definition of labor, signs of impending childbirth, factors influencing the birthing process, physical and mental preparation, essential supplies to pack, and the critical indicators for when to immediately head to a healthcare facility. The student team delivered the material through lectures, interactive discussions, and the distribution of educational leaflets.
Throughout the program, the participants actively engaged in the Q&A and discussion sessions. Consequently, patients and their families gained a deeper understanding of birth indicators and the necessary preparatory measures. This improved health literacy is expected to increase family preparedness in supporting pregnant mothers, facilitate rapid decision-making at the onset of labor signs, and ultimately promote a safe delivery process for both mother and infant.
This educational campaign aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by focusing on maternal and neonatal health improvement through quality public health education. Through these promotive and preventive efforts, the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Airlangga maintains its solid commitment to enhancing community health literacy and contributing to safe, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare services for mothers and children.
Integrated SDGs:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being: Improving the health literacy of mothers and families regarding childbirth signs and preparation to safeguard maternal and neonatal outcomes through high-quality health education.
