NERS NEWS — Fukuoka, Japan — July 21, 2026 — A delegation from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, participated in a Disaster Preparedness Learning Visit at the Fukuoka Disaster Prevention Center, Japan, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The activity was part of the Student Outbound program to the Japanese Red Cross Kyushu International College of Nursing (JRCKICN), aiming to enhance students’ understanding of disaster preparedness and response in Japan through hands-on learning and simulations.
The activity began with a journey from the accommodation to the Fukuoka Disaster Prevention Center from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival, the students prepared to participate in a series of disaster simulations scheduled from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. This preparation served as the initial stage before the students gained direct learning and simulation experiences related to disaster preparedness.
From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the students received an introduction to the Fukuoka Disaster Prevention Center, including information about disasters and disaster management in Japan. The activity was then followed by simulations that provided students with hands-on experience in understanding disaster preparedness and response in emergency situations.
The activity aimed to broaden students’ knowledge of Japan’s disaster preparedness system while providing practical learning experiences. This learning experience aligned with the objectives of the Student Outbound program in enhancing academic perspectives, cross-cultural communication skills, and students’ experience in nursing and disaster management.
Through the Disaster Preparedness Learning Visit, students were expected to gain broader perspectives on disaster preparedness and response while developing competencies relevant to the role of nursing professionals in disaster situations. The activity also supported SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being through strengthening understanding of health preparedness and SDG 4: Quality Education through international learning experiences.
