FGD (FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION) RW 2 Kalijudan Surabaya: Formulating Solutions, Building Community Health Together

NERS NEWS — Surabaya, February 18, 2026 — This Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held with the participation of representatives of KSH (Kader Surabaya Hebat) mothers from RT 1, 2, 3, 4 RW 2 Kalijudan, Mulyorejo District, Surabaya City as active participants. The FGD aimed to identify health issues among vulnerable groups in the community and develop collaborative nursing interventions, both in the form of education and demonstrations. This program was introduced during the Professional Program of the Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

The discussion was conducted based on target groups, namely pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, school-age children, adolescents, productive age groups, the elderly, and the environment in RW 02 Kalijudan. Each group has a working group focused on intervention efforts to address health issues in the area. In general, the condition of pregnant women is quite good, but there are still mothers who do not regularly attend ANC and do not regularly consume iron tablets, so compliance with examinations and anemia prevention needs to be improved. In toddlers, there are still risks of malnutrition and suboptimal coverage of exclusive breastfeeding and basic immunization. Among school-age children, the main problems that arise are dental health issues such as caries and cavities. Most adolescents face anxiety about the future, characterized by overthinking, stress, and sleep disorders. Meanwhile, among the productive age group and the elderly, the main problems are high rates of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus. In addition, among the productive age group, there are still habits of smoking indoors, lack of physical activity, and low use of contraception among couples of childbearing age. Overall, more targeted and sustainable promotional and preventive efforts are needed for each target group

Based on the results of the assessment and input from the local KSH, interventions were developed in accordance with the data and needs identified by the community. The program will include education in each neighborhood unit (RT) in accordance with the material from each working group, door-to-door education at residents’ businesses, and health checks for the elderly and productive age groups. In addition, the group will innovate by creating a simple website to monitor medication compliance. Nursing students will also provide demonstrations as part of efforts to prevent and address health issues in RW 02. All activities are carried out through collaboration between students, the community health center, and the Surabaya Great Community Health Workers (KSH) to improve the health status of the community.
