Health Education Activity “KOMPAK DM (Collaborative Control by Patients and Families to Manage Diabetes Mellitus)”

NERS NEWS — On Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM WIB, a health education session was conducted by Nursing Professional Program students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Cohort B27. The session took place in Room 502, IRNA 5A, Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA).

The health education session carried the theme “KOMPAK DM (Collaborative Control by Patients and Families to Manage Diabetes Mellitus).” The activity aimed to increase the knowledge of patients and their families regarding the importance of managing Diabetes Mellitus through routine monitoring, the implementation of a healthy lifestyle, and family support throughout the care process.

After the presentation of the material, patients and their families were also given a demonstration on the correct method of insulin injection. This demonstration was conducted to help patients and their families understand the proper and safe steps for administering insulin.

During the session, patients and their families showed great enthusiasm. After the presentation and demonstration, they actively asked questions related to Diabetes Mellitus management and the use of insulin in daily care.

At the end of the session, the activity was concluded with feedback from Ners Diki, the nurse on duty at IRNA 5A. “If parents have Diabetes Mellitus, their children will not necessarily develop the same disease. However, genetic factors can increase the risk. Therefore, it is important for family members to adopt a healthy lifestyle, such as maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and undergoing routine health check-ups to prevent or reduce the risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus,” said Ners Diki in response to a question from a patient’s family member. Overall, the health education session ran smoothly and received positive responses and feedback from the patients and their families.
