[NERS NEWS] Surabaya, October 16 — Students from Group D2, Class of 49, of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Gerontological Nursing Clinical Rotation, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity at Griya Wreda Jambangan Nursing Home in Surabaya on Friday, October 16, 2026. The activity carried the theme “Keeping Older Adults Safe and Independent: Recognizing Risks and Preventing Falls Early” and targeted older adults who live independently at the nursing home.
The activity was supervised by Ms. Rista Fauziningtyas, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Ph.D., who attended the session as the academic supervisor. The health education session aimed to improve older adults’ understanding of fall risks and fall prevention strategies to promote safety and maintain independence in daily activities.
Falls are a common health concern among older adults due to changes in muscle strength, balance, and vision, as well as unsafe environmental conditions. Therefore, fall prevention education is essential to reduce the risk of injury and help older adults maintain their independence.
The educational session was delivered through lectures and question-and-answer discussions, using posters and leaflets as educational materials. The topics included recognizing fall risks, understanding their consequences, learning fall prevention strategies, and knowing what to do if a fall occurs.
Through this activity, the students hope that older adults will better understand the importance of staying safe while performing daily activities and apply fall prevention strategies in their everyday lives. A safe environment and appropriate safety practices are expected to support older adults’ independence and improve their quality of life.
