NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession Education Program students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (FKp Unair) conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at IRNA 6, Universitas Airlangga Hospital. The PKRS activity addressed the topic “Hypertension Exercise as a Simple Step to Control Blood Pressure” and was attended by 16 participants from patients’ families.
This PKRS activity was organized by Nursing Profession students of Group 4 of the Medical-Surgical Nursing Rotation, accompanied by Ners Sri Purwanti, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., as the clinical supervisor. Throughout the activity, the clinical supervisor also accompanied the students in delivering the education.
During the activity, participants were provided with education about hypertension, including the definition of hypertension, causes of hypertension, signs and symptoms of hypertension, the definition of anti-hypertension exercise, the benefits of anti-hypertension exercise, and the steps of anti-hypertension exercise. The material was delivered using leaflets and PowerPoint (PPT) as supporting media so that the information could be received and understood more easily by the participants.
During the delivery of the material, participants showed a fairly active response when invited to interact. Participants also followed the series of activities well, including when given the opportunity to discuss and answer questions related to the material that had been presented. After the material was delivered, the activity continued with practicing hypertension exercises together. Participants were invited to practice the exercise movements using a tutorial video, allowing them to follow the movements directly according to the instructions provided. This practice was expected to provide participants with experience so that they could more easily apply physical activity independently in their daily lives.
This PKRS activity was one form of promotive and preventive effort to increase participants’ awareness of the importance of maintaining health and controlling blood pressure. Through education and direct practice, participants were expected to understand the importance of physical activity and make hypertension exercise one of the simple activities that can be performed regularly to manage blood pressure.
The implementation of this activity was also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Education about hypertension and direct exercise practice also supported increased participant awareness of the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and the implementation of healthy living behaviors.
The PKRS activity went well and received positive participation from the participants until the activity was completed. It is hoped that the knowledge and skills gained through this activity can be applied sustainably by participants in their daily lives as part of efforts to maintain health and control blood pressure.
