NERS NEWS — Nursing Professional Program students of Batch B27 carried out a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity on Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) in the 5th Floor Obstetrics and Gynecology Inpatient Room (IRNA Obgyn) of Universitas Airlangga hospital on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 08.30 WIB. The activity was attended by eight family members of patients and patients, and was directly supervised by the Head of the Ward, Midwife Frida Syamsiana, S.Keb., Bd., as an effort to improve family understanding of the importance of the kangaroo method in infant care. The PKRS activity was conducted interactively through material delivery, demonstration of Kangaroo Mother Care techniques, and discussion and question-and-answer sessions with patients’ families.
Nursing Professional students of Group B27 provided education regarding the benefits of skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby, the correct positioning when performing KMC, and the importance of family support in assisting the recovery process and growth and development of the infant. This PKRS aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of families in independently and continuously applying Kangaroo Mother Care. In addition to helping maintain the baby’s body temperature, the KMC method can also strengthen mother–infant bonding and support the success of exclusive breastfeeding. This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
Through this PKRS activity, it is expected that patients and families can properly apply the Kangaroo Mother Care method, thereby improving the health quality of both mother and baby. Similar educational activities are also expected to continue as a form of contribution from professional students and healthcare workers in providing educational and patient safety, oriented care.
