NERS NEWS — The 2026 Nursing Profession Practice Group, School-Age Working Group, conducted a health education activity with the theme “KUMAN (Kubu Murid Anti Kuman): Clean Hands, Healthy Children, Excellent Achievement.” This activity aimed to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of maintaining hand hygiene as an effort to prevent disease and to encourage the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) in the school environment.

The health education activity was conducted by the 2026 Nursing Profession Practice Group, School-Age Working Group, targeting 35 fifth-grade students from Classes V A and V B of SD Muhyiddin Surabaya. The activity was also supported by the school, particularly the classroom teachers who provided assistance throughout the education session. The education session was held at SD Muhyiddin Surabaya.

This activity was organized as a promotive and preventive effort to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of washing hands properly as an effective way to prevent the spread of germs and various infectious diseases. In addition, this activity aimed to establish clean and healthy living habits from school age, thereby supporting students’ health and academic achievement.

The activity began with an opening and an introduction of the education team, followed by the delivery of material on the definition of germs, how germs spread, the importance of handwashing, important times to wash hands, and the six correct steps of handwashing. The material was delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on handwashing practice by the students. Throughout the activity, students enthusiastically participated in every activity, actively answered questions, and took part in handwashing practice. The activity concluded with a brief evaluation to measure participants’ understanding and ended with a group photo session.

Through this health education activity, students are expected to be able to apply proper handwashing habits in their daily lives, both at school and at home, thereby creating a healthier environment and supporting the realization of “Clean Hands, Healthy Children, Excellent Achievement.”
