NERS NEWS — The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, successfully held the 2026 New Student Interaction and Orientation Period (MITOSIS 2026) from August 5–7, 2026. Carrying the theme “The Journey of Future Nurses,” the three-day event served as an initial platform for new students to become more familiar with the Faculty of Nursing Unair environment, build connections with fellow students, and prepare themselves for academic life as future professional nurses.

A total of 304 new students participated in MITOSIS 2026, comprising 241 regular-program students and 63 students from the transfer program. All participants took part in a series of educational, interactive, and collaborative activities. Beyond introducing the academic system, MITOSIS was also designed to introduce the academic culture, values of the nursing profession, and sense of togetherness as part of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga community.

The MITOSIS 2026 series began on the first day with a lively opening ceremony. The release of balloons marked the beginning of the new students’ journey within the Faculty of Nursing Unair environment. The atmosphere became even more vibrant with various student art performances welcoming the participants. On the same occasion, the new students received their orientation attributes as a symbol of the beginning of a new phase in their academic journey.

Various aspects of student life at the Faculty of Nursing were also introduced on the first day. New students gained an understanding of academic activities, an overview of nursing practice, and the courses that would become part of their study journey. This orientation was expected to help students gain a more comprehensive understanding of their academic environment while encouraging them to recognize their potential, adapt, and take an active role throughout their university life.

The second day provided an opportunity for new students to become more familiar with the faculty environment. Accompanied by their group mentors, known as Serotonin, participants took part in a campus orientation by visiting various facilities that would support their academic activities. They were introduced to classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices, learning facilities, and various academic services available at the Faculty of Nursing Unair.

Interaction between new students and their mentors also became an important part of the activity. Information about the Faculty of Nursing‘s facilities and infrastructure, student life, community development, as well as research and publication was delivered through communicative activities that directly involved the participants. Opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussions allowed the new students to gain a deeper understanding of the environment they would become part of throughout their studies. At the same time, the activities served as the beginning of closer relationships and a sense of comfort among students in the same cohort.

The highlight of the event took place on the third day. The series of activities began with a closing ceremony led by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Yuni Sufyanti Arief, S.Kp., M.Kes. She also encouraged the new students to make their university years an opportunity to continuously broaden their knowledge, develop their abilities, and contribute through both academic achievements and extracurricular activities.

Afterward, the new students were introduced to various student organizations through the Student Organization Display (Ormawa). This activity provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about the various spaces for personal development available at the Faculty of Nursing Unair. Each organization introduced its activities and programs, allowing new students to explore opportunities to develop their interests, talents, leadership skills, and social awareness.

The excitement continued through the expression showcase session. New students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and abilities through various performances, including art, music, dance, and other forms of expression. These performances showcased the diverse potential of the new students while creating a space for them to develop courage and self-confidence. A special performance by the MITOSIS committee was also presented as part of the celebration and as an appreciation for the participants who had taken part in the entire series of activities.

As a mark of the conclusion of MITOSIS 2026, the entire committee came together to play percussion instruments and sing songs in a warm atmosphere. This moment became one of the most memorable parts of the event, as it marked the transition from the end of the orientation period to the beginning of the new students’ journey in university life. The laughter, enthusiasm, new experiences, and sense of togetherness created throughout the three days became the first stories that the new students would carry with them throughout their journey at the Faculty of Nursing Unair.
