NERS NEWS — Surabaya, (September 11) — Group 8 of the Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) Rotation, Nursing Profession Education Program, Batch 49, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity with the theme “Moving Toward Recovery: Recognize Early Mobilization after Surgery” on Friday, September 11, 2026. This activity was conducted in the recovery room waiting area of the Operating Room (OK) at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) as an effort to increase patients’ and families’ knowledge regarding the importance of early mobilization after surgery through material presentation and a question-and-answer session.
During this activity, participants received education about early mobilization after surgery, starting from its definition, objectives, benefits, and timing of implementation, to the stages of mobilization carried out gradually according to the patient’s condition. Participants were also provided with an understanding that mobilization can begin with changing positions, sitting, standing, and then walking while still paying attention to the patient’s condition and safety.
The PKRS activity was conducted interactively using leaflets and posters as educational media. The material was delivered in easy-to-understand language and adapted to the conditions of participants in the recovery room waiting area. The activity was then continued with a discussion and question-and-answer session so that participants could ask questions related to mobilization after surgery.
Through this activity, patients and families are expected to understand the importance of early mobilization and know the stages of safe mobilization after surgery. This education is also expected to reduce patients’ fear or hesitation to move and increase patients’ involvement in the recovery process.
This educational activity also supported the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being through increasing patients’ knowledge and awareness regarding health recovery after surgical procedures.
Through the PKRS activity with the theme “Moving Toward Recovery: Recognize Early Mobilization after Surgery,” Group 8 of the Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) Rotation, Nursing Profession Education Program, Batch 49, hoped that the education provided could help patients and families understand the importance of early mobilization and encourage patients to follow the mobilization process gradually according to their condition and the recommendations of healthcare professionals.
