Ngembat Interaksi: Bullying Prevention Education for Elementary School Students by Faculty of Nursing Unair Students in Ngembat Village, Mojokerto

NERS NEWS — Mojokerto — In an effort to create a safe school environment that supports children’s mental development, students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, through a community service team, organized the “Ngembat Interaksi” program, which provided bullying prevention education for elementary school students in Ngembat Village, Gondang District, Mojokerto Regency.

This community service activity focused on the “Ngembat Interaksi” program, which was implemented through interactive educational sessions on the dangers of bullying for elementary school students. The delivery methods were designed to be engaging and adaptive to children in order to enhance their overall understanding of different forms of bullying, its psychological and physical impacts, and ways to prevent it. Students were encouraged to recognize behavioral boundaries through simple case studies, ice-breaking activities, and practical prevention strategies to build mental resilience from an early age.

This educational program was directly initiated by students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, who were involved in the community service program, in collaboration with the principal and classroom teachers of the local elementary school. Aisyah Amalia Ashfa Pramudy, Universitas Airlangga‘s 2026 Outstanding Student from the Faculty of Psychology, was also invited as a speaker for the activity. The event was attended by 15 fourth-grade students and 15 fifth-grade students and was held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Ngembat Village Hall, Gondang District, Mojokerto Regency.

The program was initiated in response to the urgent need to prevent verbal and physical violence in elementary educational institutions, which can often go unnoticed and interfere with children’s concentration, learning, and psychological development. Through the cultivation of these values, the program aimed to foster empathy, encourage mutual respect, and build students’ courage to report bullying incidents to teachers or parents. This activity fully supported the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 3, Good Health and Well-Being, and Goal 4, Quality Education. The “Ngembat Interaksi” program provided elementary school students with education aimed at increasing their understanding of bullying, including its forms, impacts, and prevention strategies. Through this education, students were expected to develop mutual respect, empathy toward others, and the courage to report bullying, thereby creating a school environment that is safe, comfortable, and supportive of children’s character development.

The school also expressed a positive response to the initiative. “We are very grateful for the education provided by the students to the children here. Through this activity, our children can become more confident in speaking up, develop empathy, and care for one another,” said a representative of the elementary school teachers during the final evaluation session.

Through the implementation of the “Ngembat Interaksi” program, preventive efforts against bullying at the elementary school level have been introduced. Moving forward, this education is expected to go beyond being a one-time activity and contribute to building a school culture rooted in empathy and mutual respect. Continued collaboration among students, teachers, and parents is expected to help monitor students’ psychological development and ensure the creation of a safe, conducive, and supportive learning environment for the future of children in Ngembat Village.
