NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession Education Program students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Community and Family Nursing Rotation, Wave 2, conducted a Youth Health Working Group activity with the theme “Wise Internet Use and Efforts to Reduce Cigarette Consumption” at SMP Giki 3 Surabaya on Friday, September 18, 2026. The activity was aimed at adolescents as an effort to increase awareness regarding wise internet use while encouraging healthy living behaviors through reducing cigarette consumption.
The activity was conducted through the delivery of education to students regarding the importance of using the internet appropriately, responsibly, and in ways that provide positive impacts in daily life. In addition, participants were also provided with an understanding of cigarette consumption and the importance of avoiding smoking habits from adolescence. The delivery of the materials was expected to help students recognize various behaviors that can affect health and make healthier decisions.
The activity was attended by 90 Grade 7 and Grade 8 students of SMP Giki 3 Surabaya and was conducted as part of efforts to increase adolescents’ knowledge and awareness regarding wise internet use and the prevention of smoking behavior. Adolescence is an important period in the formation of habits and behavioral patterns, so health education in the school environment is expected to support the development of healthier behaviors. This activity also serves as a form of contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education.
Through this activity, students of SMP Giki 3 Surabaya are expected to be able to use the internet more wisely and have greater awareness of avoiding and reducing cigarette consumption. The education provided is expected to serve as an initial step in building a generation of adolescents who are more health-conscious, responsible in using technology, and able to apply healthy behaviors in their daily lives.
