NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity with the theme “GERCEP: Gerak Cepat dan Tepat Pasca Operasi” on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Inpatient Care Unit (IRNA) 3 of Universitas Airlangga Hospital.
The activity was aimed at patients’ families as part of an effort to increase their knowledge and involvement in supporting patients’ recovery after surgery. Through this education, families were expected to understand the importance of early mobilization and provide support to patients in performing activities gradually, safely, and according to their condition.
The “GERCEP” PKRS activity was conducted through lectures, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and demonstrations of early mobilization using educational media in the form of presentations and leaflets. The materials covered the definition of early mobilization, the benefits of postoperative mobilization, stages of mobilization that can be performed gradually, and important considerations when assisting patients with mobilization.
During the educational session, students explained that early mobilization is an important part of the postoperative recovery process. Mobilization performed gradually and according to the patient’s condition can help maintain muscle strength, improve blood circulation, support the patient’s ability to perform daily activities, and reduce the risk of complications associated with prolonged bed rest. Therefore, families play an important role in motivating and assisting patients with mobilization while continuing to prioritize safety and follow healthcare professionals’ instructions.
To improve participants’ understanding, students demonstrated the stages of gradual mobilization, beginning with changing positions in bed, sitting, standing, and eventually walking according to the patient’s ability and condition. Participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss matters that should be considered when assisting patients in beginning activities after surgery.
The activity was conducted interactively and received an enthusiastic response from patients’ families. Participants actively listened to the materials, followed the demonstrations, and participated in the question-and-answer session. This interaction was expected to help families understand that simple support provided during the recovery period can play an important role in helping patients achieve optimal recovery.
The activity was conducted by Nursing Profession students of Batch 49, Group 2, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, under the guidance and supervision of Ners Yevi Dwi Lestari, S.Kep., Ns., as the clinical supervisor. This supervision aimed to ensure that the educational activity was conducted in accordance with nursing principles, the needs of patients and their families, and healthcare service standards in the hospital environment.
Through the “GERCEP: Gerak Cepat dan Tepat Pasca Operasi” PKRS activity, Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, sought to contribute to improving families’ knowledge, awareness, and involvement in the patient recovery process. The activity also served as an application of nursing students’ roles in promotive and preventive efforts through direct health education for the community in the hospital environment.
