Nursing Profession Students of Universitas Airlangga Conduct Anemia Prevention Education for Pregnant Women at the OBGYN Clinic of Universitas Airlangga Hospital

NERS NEWS — Surabaya, 12 June 2026 — Nursing Profession students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Group D2.2–B27 carried out a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity with the theme “Love Yourself, Love Your Baby by Preventing Anemia Early” in the waiting area of the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) Clinic at Universitas Airlangga Hospital. This activity aimed to improve the knowledge of pregnant women and their families regarding the prevention and management of anemia during pregnancy.

The health education was delivered through lectures and a question-and-answer session using leaflet media and PowerPoint presentations. The materials provided included the definition of anemia in pregnancy, causes, signs and symptoms, types of anemia, management, complications, and dietary patterns that can help prevent anemia in pregnant women.

The session began with an introduction by the moderator, followed by material delivery by the presenter, and an interactive discussion with participants. Participants showed enthusiasm by asking various questions, including how to manage nausea during pregnancy and how to consume iron supplements (Fe) without causing nausea. The educators explained that iron tablets can be taken before bedtime and combined with vitamin C intake to improve iron absorption.

Although the activity experienced a schedule adjustment due to overlapping PKRS activities from the hospital, the session still ran smoothly and in an orderly manner. Participants remained cooperative, actively asked questions, and stayed engaged until the end. The educational media used also helped participants better understand the material presented.

Through this activity, Nursing Profession students hope that the community, especially pregnant women, will better understand the importance of early anemia prevention to support maternal and fetal health. Continuous health education is expected to increase awareness regarding adequate nutrition and adherence to iron supplementation during pregnancy.

Overall, this PKRS activity contributes to the achievement of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and also supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by improving knowledge, awareness, and health behavior among pregnant women to achieve optimal maternal and child health.
