Nursing Profession Students of Universitas Airlangga Provide “Recognize Vaginal Discharge, Address the Problem” Education to Improve Reproductive Health

NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga conducted a health education session themed “Recognize Vaginal Discharge, Address the Problem” at the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) Clinic of Universitas Airlangga Hospital on Thursday (June 11) at 10:00 AM. This activity served as a form of public health education aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through efforts to improve knowledge regarding women’s reproductive health.

This educational session was organized by Nursing Profession students of Universitas Airlangga, targeting patients and families waiting for services at the OBGYN Clinic of Universitas Airlangga Hospital. The session was moderated by Vina Rohmatak, while the materials were delivered by Rina Suwandi and Fadhilatur Rahma Annuriza. Through this activity, the students aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of vaginal discharge so they could distinguish between normal and abnormal conditions and understand appropriate prevention and management strategies.

The material covered the definition of vaginal discharge, factors causing it, the differences between normal and abnormal discharge, prevention methods, and appropriate management for discharge that may indicate pathological conditions. The presenters explained that vaginal discharge is a common condition experienced by women and can be physiological (normal). However, the public needs to be aware of discharge accompanied by symptoms such as changes in color, unpleasant odor, itching, burning sensations, or pain, as these may indicate reproductive health issues.

The session was delivered interactively through lectures and a question-and-answer discussion. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions about reproductive health and daily habits that may affect feminine hygiene. This health education activity is expected to improve public awareness and knowledge, especially among women, regarding the importance of maintaining reproductive health. With better understanding, participants are expected to be able to detect signs of abnormal vaginal discharge early and seek medical attention promptly, contributing to a healthier, more productive, and prosperous society.
