NERS NEWS – Nursing Clinical Practice (PKK) students from Groups B1 and B2 conducted a Health Promotion (PKRS) program focused on the 6-step handwashing technique at the Kenjeran Health Center. This initiative aimed to raise public awareness regarding clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS).

The educational session was delivered through health counseling utilizing leaflets that detailed the standardized 6-step handwashing procedure. In addition to the presentation, students provided a live demonstration and invited the public to practice the steps alongside them to reinforce their understanding.

The activity was carried out by students from PKK Groups B1 and B2 during their clinical rotation at the Kenjeran Health Center. The program targeted patients and visitors present at the facility during the session.

This PKRS initiative aimed to enhance public knowledge about the importance of hand hygiene as a primary measure for preventing infections and disease transmission. Furthermore, the activity represents the implementation of the nursing students’ role in supporting promotive and preventive efforts within healthcare facilities.

The handwashing education directly contributes to improving public health through the prevention of communicable diseases. By enhancing community awareness and skills in hand hygiene, this activity supports the realization of healthier and more prosperous lives, aligning with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

Through this program, it is hoped that the community will consistently apply correct handwashing habits in their daily lives. The activity also served as a platform for nursing students to develop their health education competencies and make a tangible contribution to community health.
