NERS NEWS — The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, organized a health education program for older adults in RW 5, Kalijudan, Surabaya, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, focusing on the prevention and management of frailty syndrome in older adults. This activity aimed to improve older adults’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of maintaining physical health and nutritional status to preserve independence and quality of life in later years. Through an educational and interactive approach, participants received information about appropriate food choices, dietary patterns, and physical activities suitable for older adults to prevent frailty. In addition, the speakers provided examples of simple meal plans based on the “My Plate” concept that older adults could easily apply in daily life. The session was delivered interactively through discussion and question-and-answer sessions, enabling participants to better understand how to adopt healthy eating habits to maintain health, independence, and quality of life in old age. As a complement to the session, Nanda Auliya Ramadhan, Lailatun Ni’mah, and Rista Fauziningtyas provided additional education on physical activities that can help strengthen muscles and improve fitness in older adults, including various simple strength exercises that are safe and easy to practice independently at home. This education was expected to encourage older adults to adopt a healthy lifestyle comprehensively through a combination of proper nutrition and regular physical activity.

This community service activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, which focuses on improving health and well-being for all age groups. Through education on frailty prevention, healthy eating patterns, and physical activities to strengthen muscles, this program aimed to enhance the quality of life and independence of older adults so they can experience healthy and productive aging.
